Almost done with my new site!

Hi Gals,

Again sorry I wasn't able to crit anyone's work this week. I ended up having a horrible stomach virus this weekend and it literally wiped me out. Feeling a little stronger now. I'm almost done with the new site. Have to add a links page. Let me know what you all think. Thanks

  1. Hi Giselle,
I really like what you have done with the site, it really showcases your best work. I like how the diver changes when you run over it! Nice, fun touch.
What I like best is that it's clean, uncluttered, and simple to navigate.
    Great job!

  2. Hi Giselle,
Your site is great. For not being computer savy I think it turned out just wonderful!!! You said you went through Go Daddy?
It is very easy to navigate and gets to the point. Great job!

  3. Thanks Brenda! Yes I ended up with GoDaddy. They are extremely reliable and pretty straightforward to use. Incredible customer service too. Any problem you can't figure out you email them and they usually respond within the hour or you can just call directly. I bought their "WebsiteTonight" product which means you could literally have your site up and running the same evening of purchase. Of course me being as picky as I am and not so computer savvy spent a week getting it to look the way I want. I went with a generic template or what you call a blank slate type of design and added things slowly over a period of about a week. You could pick a template with a predesigned look but I didn't like them too much and wanted to have just my artwork on my site not someone else's. Anyway if you need help getting started let me know and I could walk you through if you need.

  4. Hey Giselle!
Your site looks great! Very nice work! I look at other people's sites and get so jealous...I'm just not that savvy! Plus mine is only $8 bucks a month and straight forward enough that I can do what I want simply, but nothing fancy. :( Oh well! Yours is great though! The only thing I was unsure of was the difference between the "gallery" and "portfolio." Those two areas seemed basically the same to me. Is there a reason to separate these into separate categories? If so, you might want to make note what the difference is. Also, in the gallery on my screen some of the squares were lined up but others weren't. I don't know if that's how you have it or if this is something that's happening on my screen, but if it looks the same to you, you might want to line those up, just for a more streamline look. But the site overall is great! Jealous...very jealous! :) -Gina

  5. Giselle -
I just finally checked out your website - awesome! It's simple, yet the illustrations are beautiful. The thumbnails work great and I like the way you cropped them.
The only problem I had was that my computer is soooo very slow, that it took me awhile to load up the image pages. The portfolio page was way cool - love the diver animation! It did take me approx. 15 mins. to upload it though, but, again that could be my computer. What resolution are you using for you images? I use and have heard that 72 dpi resolution is good for websites.
100 - 150 dpi for printing or reproducing, but, 72 provides quick uploading of images, while providing a decent view of the picture. You most likely already know this little tid bit, but, thought I'd throw it out there anyways.
Also, I did find a little white box with the famous red X in it on your portfolio page, between the ballerina and the Merry Christmas images, so you may want to check that out.
Other then these little things, the site looks and works great! I love the heading of you name at the top - very cool text. Do you mind me asking how you did that? Is it painted or did you use a program?
Thanks for sharing - and good luck with everything - oh yea, the bio was great too! Chris

  6. Hi Giselle,
I completely missed that you needed a critique for your site. The site looks great and everything loaded quickly. The only thing that i might change is to make your into image bigger so that it matches the width of your header. Or you could make the header smaller. It feels too weighted to the top with the different widths.
