Work in Progress: Book Dummy piece for Little Red Ridinghood. Hope to make some changes this weekend to this for Monday's posting . Here's the text that goes with it: " Once upon a time there was a sweet little maiden who was loved by all who knew her..." Giselle McMenamin copyright 2006

  1. Hi, Giselle - She's looking lovely! I thought of a few things that might help with this pic.... Her hand kind of disappears into the sky because they're both the same tone - you could try lightening the sky a bit towards the horizon and making her fingers a few tones darker so it stands out more. Also you've got such a lovely landscape in the background but it competes a bit with red riding hood and the details in the village. You could try adding a bit of aerial perspective - making everything lighter and hazier and less clearly defined as it gets further away. The Little RR will really pop!

  2. Thanks Sarah,
Tomorrow I'm painting her in. I can't wait to see how she looks against everything else going on. You're right about the background. And I don't want to lose sight of the wolf which is lurking in the upper left corner in the woods to the right of the buildings. I've posted a close up. Thanks again.

  3. Hi Giselle, I have commented on this one before, but want to say once again that I like the changes you have made to the left foot and the expression on little Red's face is so carefree... I am sure she is in for a big surprise!

  4. I like her happy expression. I agree with what sarah said about the hand, it disappears a bit next to the sky - the same thing goes for the roofs. I'm looking forward to how it will look when you have added more colors - especially the red.
